Great running communities do not exist without great volunteers. If you have ever run a race or set foot on a trail, you have benefited from the labor of a hard-working volunteer. Keeping our beloved trails in top condition requires a lot of love and sweat by volunteer trail crews. The friendly face handing you a cup of water or ensuring you stay on course during a race is an integral part of the success of the event, as well as your success in making it to the finish line. With our running community growing at a rapid pace, we want to encourage community members to get involved in making the running community in Durango the wonderful and welcoming space that it is!

Q: What’s in it for me?
A: In addition to all the warm and fuzzy feelings of satisfaction you will get in knowing you have contributed to making the running community a better place, you will also be entered to win one of TWO $100 gift cards at our winter membership party in January! One will be to Durango Running Company and the other to Backcountry Experience.

Q: How many volunteer hours do I need to put in to be eligible for the prizes?
A: Three.

Q: What counts as volunteer work and where can I put in my hours?
A: Participating on trail work crews (Trails2000 usually holds trail work nights at least once a week in the summer months!) or volunteering at a running race within a 60-mile radius of Durango will count toward your hours.

Q: How do I get my name in the drawing?
A: After you’ve completed your three hours of service, send an email to durangorunningclub@gmail.com with the subject heading: volunteer challenge. Include a brief description of the work you did (i.e. trail work, aid station volunteer, course marshal), and the event at which you completed it. Please also indicate if it was your first time volunteering in the running community!

Q: Can I enter more than once if I put in more hours?
A: One entry per person. Your extra hours will be good karma for the drawing.

Q: When can I volunteer to enter?
A: Any volunteer work between Jan 1st – Dec 31st, 2018 counts. If you volunteered at an event earlier in the year, email us now and tell us about what you did!

Q: Do I need to be a DRC member to be eligible?
A: Of course! Your membership must be current both at the time you submit your hours and at the membership party in January to be eligible to win.

Q: I’m interested! What’s the best way to get involved?
A: If you’re interested in trail work, reach out for Trails2000 or similar organizations directly to find out about volunteer opportunities. Similarly, if you are interested in helping at a race, email the race director directly to find out what is needed.
